Women's beginner hockey

Plenty of women start hockey as adults. We're a new site and so far we've found only a handful of women-specific beginner programs in the cities we cover. Here's what we have. Most programs on this site are co-ed and welcome women too.

Women's programs we've found

We also found one women's-only practice session: the Dallas Stars StarCenter in Plano lists a women's-only stick and puck (DFW).

Tips for getting started

  • Women's leagues and clubs often run intro nights or clinics before each season. Ask local women's leagues even if they aren't listed here.
  • Co-ed learn-to-play programs are also a good start; most beginner programs on this site are open to everyone.
  • Gear: women-specific options exist, and a jill (pelvic protector) replaces a jock. Fit matters more than labels; see sizing.
  • See what to expect at your first skate.
