Starter gear guide

FAQ

I can't skate at all. Where do I start?

Start with an adult learn-to-skate class (step 1). Toyota Sports Performance Center's Adult Bronze is for adults new to skating, and Great Park Ice has an entry-level class for people who have never skated.

Do I need my own gear?

Not for the Anaheim Ducks Adult Learn to Play, which provides rental skates and has limited loaner gear. Pasadena's Hockey Beginner class and Great Park Ice's Rookie League require full gear. See the starter gear guide.

Is there a league for true beginners?

Yes. Great Park Ice's Rookie League combines skills clinics and games, Lakewood ICE has a Rookie Division, and Pasadena's in-house league has a level for first-time players. Ask about the level before you sign up.
